M270 MLRS
The M270 MLRS is a multiple rocket launcher capable of firing either 12 standard rockets or two ATACMS missiles in less than one minute. It can entirely cover one square kilometer with submunitions. The M270 is able to fire its payload quickly and then move positions to avoid a counter attack. It can propel guided and unguided rockets up to 26.1 miles, whereas a ballistic missile fired from it can hit an object 186 miles away. The M270 is operated by a crew of 3.
The M270 MLRS was manufactured by Lockheed Martin and Diehl BGT Defense and it entered service in 1983. It has seen action during Operation Desert Storm and the 2003 invasion of Iraq. The M270 A1 is a variant of this rocket launcher. The M270 has an operational range of 400 miles and can reach speeds of 40 mph.
