E-3 SENTRY
The E-3 Sentry is an airborne warning and control system (AWACS) aircraft. The E-3 supplies command, control, communications, and all-weather surveillance. It requires a flight crew of 4 and has space for a mission crew of 13 to 19 specialists. The Sentry is employed by such countries and entities as the United States, United Kingdom, France, Saudi Arabia, and NATO.
The E-3 Sentry (AWACS) is based on the Boeing 707 and it features a disc-shaped rotodome above the fuselage. It was introduced to service in 1977. The E-3’s ceiling is above 29,000 feet and it can fly for more than 8 hours before needing to refuel. Variants include the E-3A, E-3B, E-3C, E-3D, E-3F, and E-3G.
