AAV7
The AAV7 is a fully tracked amphibious assault vehicle whose purpose is to place troops on open beaches. The United States Marine Corps currently deploys the vehicle, though it was utilized by Argentina during the 1982 invasion of the Falkland Islands; it also saw action during the First and Second Gulf Wars. The AAV7 possesses an Mk 19 40 mm automatic grenade launcher or M242 Bushmaster 25 mm and a M2HB .50 caliber machine gun. It requires a crew of 3, including a commander, gunner, and driver, and can transport 25 troops.
The AAV7 entered service in 1972 and is manufactured by BAE SYSTEMS. It was previously produced by United Defense, which was a division of FMC Corporation. The most common amphibious assault vehicle is the AAVP 7A1 (Personnel), though there is also the AAVC 7A1 (Command) and AAVR 7A1 (Recovery). The AAV7 has an operational range of 300 miles and can reach speeds of 45 mph on land and 8 mph on water.
